Wayland Lions Club

The Lions are a world-wide service organisation and every club is autonomous and run on the principle of giving service to the community. Wayland Lions is no exception and has been in existence for over 25 years and covers Attleborough and the surrounding villages. Members of a club join to have fun and to be helpful in their communities both with practical assistance and fund-raising. Some people may have noticed the collecting bins in the opticians for unwanted glasses for example. These are all checked carefully, graded and despatched to countries where glasses are unobtainable luxuries. Last year over 600,000 pairs passed through the hands of the clubs in the UK and the Wayland Lions played their part in this effort. Other examples are the fun stall run by the Wayland Lions at Old Buckenham Fayre each year and the collection at Sainsburys in Attleborough for the BBC Children in Need appeal.

All funds raised from the public go towards helping others. None of this money is held back for the administration of the Lions club. Donations have been made largely to local individuals and groups who are in need but carefully selected National and International disasters have also benefited. Being a Lion is not onerous but is rewarding with friendships and satisfaction with doing something different which can help others who may be less fortunate than ourselves. It does require a little time and effort but in all circumstances family comes first.
