Attleborough Area Partnership is a partnership of individuals, organisations and businesses that cover the parishes of Attleborough, Besthorpe, Old & New Buckenham, Banham, Gt & Lt Ellingham, Rocklands and Quidenham (including Wilby & Eccles).
In 2003 we conducted a 'Health Check' in Attleborough which questioned local people about what improvements they would like for the town. This was followed by a local distinctiveness evening which helped us identify what is special about the town and the surrounding villages. An Action Plan was then produced drawing together the information from the Health Check and also from the surrounding villages Parish Appraisals. Members of the Partnership formed special interest groups (Working groups) to start to find ways of developing the Action Plan into projects.
Keith Milburn became Chairman in 2004 and later in this year we were successful in our bid for funding to employ a Co-ordinator. In December Lindsay Abel was appointed to a two year project to help the Working Groups identify projects and look for funding where it is needed.
Two and a half years on, the funding has now come to an end and the project is completed. The town has seen many exciting and innovative projects over this time including a market regeneration project, youth activities and action group, business networking and a major heritage project.
Some good foundations for community development have been laid over the period and although funding for the current project has come to an end, a new application has been made to the Big Lottery to continue the Partnership’s valuable work over the next three years. Whatever the outcome of this bid, the Partnership continues to work to raise the aspirations of local people and help make the area a better place for everyone.
